This was not a typical growth story. James Agency had something most businesses would consider a huge advantage, an exact match domain at james.agency. On paper, this should have made ranking for their own brand name effortless.
Instead, the opposite was happening. The website was not ranking for the search term “James Agency” at all. It was not just ranking poorly, it was missing entirely from the top 100 results for brand related searches, despite being indexed by search engines. For a creative agency trying to win new property and marketing clients, this meant that someone searching for the business by name could not find them, a serious and unusual problem.
Two root causes were identified. First, the “.agency” domain extension itself was confusing Google’s systems, making it difficult for search engines to correctly determine what the actual business name was. Second, the schema markup already in place, built through the Yoast SEO plugin, was structured in a way that was actively working against the site rather than helping it.
